The final leg of the Executive Secretary’s scheduled inspection visit to the BIP sites of the three major sugar operators namely Dangote Sugar Refinery, BUA Sugar Refinery and Golden Sugar Refinery came to an end with a visit to the second BIP site of DSR located in Tunga, Awe LGA of Nasarawa state.
He was accompanied on the visit by the Director, Finance and Accounts, Alhaji Auwalu Abubakar; Director, Technical Service, Alhaji Salihu Bkeke; Director, Executive Secretary’s Office, Alhaji Ahmed Waziri; Deputy Director, PPRS, Alhaji Babangida Damare; Deputy Director, Procurement, Dr. Abiodun Adeyemo; Deputy Director, ES Office, Mr. Chris Mbamalu; Coordinator, Nigeria Sugar Institute; Dr. Kawuyo Mohammed and some Principal Officers of the Council.
The visits, according to Mr. Adedeji, was to keep track of developments at the sugar estate, discuss new modalities for reporting progress as well as to bring the operators up to speed with regards to recent developments in the industry, like President Muhammadu Buhari’s signing of the second phase of the NSMP.
While urging the operators to be transparent and remain committed to the various agreements they willingly signed unto, particularly as it relates to the implementation of the BIP component of the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan (NSMP), said all hands must be on deck for Nigeria to meaningfully grow the sector.
“This is more less like a family meeting where we are expected to be open, objective, sincere and present all issues in black and white throughout our deliberation. This is not the time for buck passing. In fact, I’ve left my regulatory cap in Abuja. So, let’s be free to discuss and share perspectives on ways to achieve our objectives in the sugar industry”.
The Executive Secretary, Mr. Zacch Adedeji also led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Governor of Nasarawa state and Chairman, Forum of Governors of Sugar Producing States, Engr. Sule Abdullahi in Lafia.
